Use repetition without making a display rigid

Choose one quiet connection between objects: a color, a material or a shape. Two wooden frames or several pale book spines can create continuity without requiring matching sets.

Vary height within a small group and leave an empty area beside it. Check that tall pieces are stable and that nothing sits close to an edge.

Look at the whole shelf rather than adjusting every object separately. A useful arrangement can include an irregular stack of books or a frequently used bowl.
